Windows 8.1 Roku SlingPlayer app to be Released Next Month

Sling Media has announced the availability of the SlingPlayer 3.0 for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, along with the release of a dedicated Roku channel. The company also announced that a standalone Windows 8.1 app will be released next month

Slingbox has been recently acquire by by Dish parent EchoStar but this hasn’t stopped the company from continuing to improve their SlingPlayer software. Version 3.0 of SlingPlayer 3.0 comes with new ways to discover and view TV content, a redesigned user interface, split-screen navigation and richer social media engagement. Ryan Lawler with TechCrunch further explains:

SlingPlayer 3.0 is the newest client for iPad, providing a new interface for discovering and viewing place-shifted TV on the tablet. The app provides a new split-screen navigation feature that allows viewers to browse through other shows, get more information about what they’re watching, and engage with other viewers through an integrated Twitter channel. Along with the built-in social media conversations, the app also allows viewers to discover content based on what they’ve liked on other networks.

A free SlingPlayer channel for Roku 2 has been added and what interests us is that all-new Roku app for Windows 8.1 is on the way and is going to get launched, most likely, in the following app. Sling Media will launch a dedicated SlingPlayer for Windows 8.1 app, and will bring full compatibility for tablets, as well as desktop or laptop PCs and convertible devices.
