  • Windows is an extremely complicated operating system – the decades of legacy it has to drag with it becomes a pain to carry not only for Microsoft but also for its users. However it is necessary since you can’t expect 3rd party developers to rewrite their programs for every iteration of Windows – Microsoft already demanded something similar with Windows Vista and history knows what blunder that created.

Anyway, one of the problems that complexity brings is the resolution for your issues become hard – since there can be a lot of reasons for something to not work, and it is very hard to figure out what is causing the malfunction. All we can do is try and hope to find a solution. One such a problem is with Bluetooth keyboards – you connect one but it doesn’t work. Quite annoying, as annoying as it sounds. But that’s where the simplicity of the problem ends – there are various reasons for this to happen, and there is no way to know what exactly is causing this problem for you specifically.

What you will have to do, therefore, is throw solutions randomly and see what sticks – so here are some of them you can give a shot to and hope for the best.

What to do if Bluetooth keyboard doesn’t work in Windows 10

    Table of contents:

  • Make some changes in Device Manager
  • Check if the Bluetooth Support Service is running
  • Reinstall Bluetooth drivers
  • Check if your Power Management options are not interfering
  • Run Hardware Troubleshooter
  • Change keyboard settings
  • Disable Airplane mode
  • Try different USB port
  • 1. Make some changes in Device Manager

This solution has worked for many people, so it seems to work – but there are no guarantees of course just because of how unpredictable Windows gets. However, we do have the option to try another solution, so here’s hoping this works.

    2. Check if the Bluetooth Support Service is running

Your keyboard should, in theory, work now, if it still does not work as you want it to, try this one last solution:

    3. Reinstall Bluetooth drivers

  • Go to Search, type devicemngr, and open Device Manager.
  • When Device Manager opens, find your keyboard, right click it and press Uninstall.
  • Windows will ask you to confirm that you wish to uninstall the driver. Click on Uninstall.
  • After confirming and uninstalling your keyboard driver, restart your computer.
  • Now you need to visit your keyboard manufacturer’s website and check if there’s a new driver available for Windows 10.
  • 3.1 Update drivers automatically

Expert Tip: Some PC issues are hard to tackle, especially when it comes to corrupted repositories or missing Windows files. If you are having troubles fixing an error, your system may be partially broken. We recommend installing Restoro, a tool that will scan your machine and identify what the fault is.

If you don’t want the hassle of searching for drivers on your own, you can use a tool that will do this for you automatically. Of course, as you’re not able to connect to the internet at the moment, this tool won’t be useful. However, once you get online, it will help you to keep all your drivers up to date, so you won’t be in this situation anymore.

Therefore, a specialized tool would be very useful to prevent PC damage caused by installing the incorrect versions and automate the updating process of the drivers.

    4. Check if your Power Management options are not interfering

And that’s the last solution we had for you, these 3 solutions should be able to fix your Bluetooth after you upgraded to Windows 10 – something Microsoft should have taken care of but they didn’t. Wireless technology is a hard thing to figure out – there are a lot of things that could go wrong and on top of that you have this complicated operating system to take care of.

    5. Run Hardware Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings.
  • Head over to Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Find Bluetooth, and click Run the troubleshooter.
  • Follow further on-screen instructions.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Note: If the Bluetooth troubleshooter didn’t get the job done, repeat the process, but this time choose Hardware & devices.

    6. Change keyboard settings

  • Open the Control Panel.
  • When Control Panel opens, enter Devices and Printers.
  • Locate your keyboard on the list, right click it and choose Properties.
  • When the Properties window opens, go to Services tab. Select Drivers for keyboard, mice, etc (HID). Save changes.
  • 7. Disable Airplane mode

  • Go to Settings.
  • Go to Network and Internet > Airplane mode.
  • Toggle Airplane mode off.
  • 8. Try different USB port

If none of the previous solutions managed to resolve the problem, maybe there’s something wrong with the USB port you’re trying to connect your keyboard to. So, the solution is obvious. Just try another USB port, and see if it makes any difference

If none of these solutions work out for you then perhaps you should carry on finding a better solution, at the end if nothing works then as always simply reinstalling Windows will fix all of your problems – unless its a hardware one.
