Virtual reality has started to evolve from a fancy, gimmicky feature into something that the tech-consuming populace is desperately trying to get their hands on. Everyone is taking VR as serious as ever and it has become a feature that could potentially make or break a deal. Microsoft has taken notice of the way things are flowing in the tech world and have announced a new feature coming to their products once again promoting the interplay between the Xbox and Windows 10 on PCs.
This time around, Microsoft has introduced the ability to stream Xbox One video games to the Oculus Rift. Unfortunately, as many might already know, the Xbox One does not have the necessary specifications to make it capable of running virtual reality. What this means is that a direct streaming capability could not be implemented for the Xbox One in regards to the Oculus Headset and game streaming. This is where Windows 10 steps in. Microsoft is now allowing Xbox One consoles to stream to a Windows 10 operating PC, and from there, to the Oculus Rift which is connected to the Windows 10 running machine. This indirect connect won’t successfully substitute a pure VR experience, but it can make for a pretty good one nonetheless as you get to check out your favorite Xbox One games in VR.
Microsoft has also announced an upcoming improved version of its console. The device which is going under the name Project Scorpio will come with support for more advanced functionality including virtual reality. Although not yet confirmed, it is every bit possible that Microsoft will also add a direct link between the Xbox and the VR headset. Until Scorpio is released, Xbox players can access the new feature to make use of their VR headset while playing on the Xbox One starting with the 12th of December.
