Buyers are not too interested in Windows phones, forcing both Microsoft and mobile operators to confront the difficult task of convincing potential customers that Windows phones are the best choice. It appears the tech giant wasn’t too successful at this task, judging by the 46% drop in phone revenue in Q3. On the other hand, Xbox devices were very successful, with 46 million monthly Xbox Live users compared to 34 million in 2015.

Australian mobile operator Optus took a look at these numbers and concocted the perfect deal for its customers: the purchase of a Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL on a 24-month contract nets new handset owners get a free Xbox One. This is a very smart strategy: you get a coveted Xbox One for free if you buy a not-so-popular phone. An irresistible offer indeed!

There is a trick, though: If a user does not complete the two-year plan, they’ll have to pay the full remainder of the 500GB Xbox One’s cost as well as other the costs associated with the contract. As far as the 24-month contract is concerned, it has to be a minimum $80 AUD plan and the offer is valid as long as stocks last.

Microsoft and retailers are trying hard to convince users to purchase Lumia 950. Back in April, Microsoft offered a free Lumia 950 if customers bought a Lumia 950XL, and a current deal lets Lumia 920, 925 or 1020 owner trade in their handset for a new Lumia 950/950 XL. Amazon UK is also trying to offer incentives to tempt the purchase of a Lumia 950: it’s now available for £349.99 / $504 from Amazon while the Microsoft Store has it for $549.00.

Speaking of the Lumia 950, the long-demanded double tap to wake feature could soon be available on this phone model. Microsoft encouraged users to vote for this feature in the Feedback Hub. If the double-tap to wake feature receives enough votes, the tech giant could bring it back from the dead.
