HP Drive Encryption not supported in the Anniversary Update

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update hits again: if you own an HP computer, and you want to encrypt the hard drive, think again. The Anniversary Update has introduced new signature verification requirements which are incompatible with HP Drive Encryption (HPDE) and may cause severe issues on users’ computers.

HP Drive Encryption is a useful security tool, allowing HP computer owners to protect data by encrypting the hard drive. HPDE is fully compatible with the Windows 10 versions released prior to the Anniversary Update, but if you use this tool after a fresh installation of Microsoft’s latest OS, you may encounter the following issues:

The only way to avoid such issues is to restrain from installing HPDE after a fresh installation of the Anniversary Update. HP has also confirmed it won’t offer  HPDE support for the  Anniversary Update or beyond, and recommends BitLocker as an alternate encryption solution.
