If there’s one thing Microsoft seems to be doing right, it would have to be HoloLens. This AR goggles seem like one of the best things to come out of the company and yet, we still do not know everything about it.
We know its design looks good and its overall thesis is sound, but what about the specifications? Seeing as the HoloLens is smaller and lighter than the likes of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, we weren’t expecting much in terms of hardware power. In the end, we were wrong.
The guys and gals over at the Windows Central managed to get their hands on the HoloLens specifications and posted it up for all to see. From what the specs have shown, the hardware is not spectacular at all. We’re guessing all the magic takes place within the sensors and the overall software.
The current version of the HoloLens, which costs developers $3000 to own, comes with an Intel Atom x5-Z8100 processor that runs at 1.04GHz. There are also 4 logical processors designed by Microsoft along with the GPU designed by Intel.
When it comes down to the RAM, this bad boy is packing 2GB worth of RAM and 64GB internal storage. Check below for the full rundown:

Overall, the specs are fine — just not what we were expecting. It is also clear that this device was not built for gaming because the power of the GPU doesn’t seem all that impressive. It should probably do well for mobile games, but anything related to the Xbox One would be a disaster.
Still, this is a preview product at the end of the day. Chances are that by the time it is ready for consumer consumption, many of the internals will change, so it is possible we might get a far better product in the future.
