Acer will be one of the many big manufacturers at this year’s CES, and the introduced some new hardware to us, even before the opening day of the event. Namely, Acer just announced the release of its new 2-in-1 laptop, The Acer Switch 12 S. This device is the successor of Acer’s Aspire Switch 12 laptop, and it offers improved specifications and some changes in the design.
The Switch 12 S features ‘only’ a 12.5-inch display, but it offers very solid screen characteristics, and it comes with an optional 4K (3840×2160) display, as well as a more standard Full HD (1920×1289) screen. This basically means that if you detach the keyboard from the screen, you’ll end up with an amazing, 4K display tablet.
Besides the 4K screen, this tablet also features are a Skylake Intel Core M CPU, combined USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, Gorilla Glass 4 and a rear-facing Intel RealSense camera array.
When it comes to the built-in storage, it offers 128GB or 256GB SSD options, and you can choose between the device with 4GB or 8GB of RAM memory. It also contains numerous ports, including two full sized USB 3.0 ports, a microHDMI output, .5mm headphone jack and a microSD card reader.
“The Aspire Switch 12 S features Thunderbolt 3 on USB-C for ultra-fast charging as well as data and video streaming of up to 40Gbps between devices or to an external HD display, including up to two 4K models simultaneously. Thunderbolt 3 also allows consumers who need even more powerful graphics for gaming to connect an optional Acer Graphics Dock to boost the performance of the Switch 12 S. The advanced Intel RealSense Camera R200 on the rear of the tablet allows Aspire Switch 12 S customers to capture movements for 3D model generating, or 3D scanning for objects or even a whole room”, says Acer.
The Acer Snap Hinge Gold, which is the company’s latest 2-in-1 hinge, allows you to stream your data between the tablet portion and the keyboard, with up to 6Gbps. Audio experience is also very good, with Acer TrueSound and Dolby audio.
Acer Switch 12 S will be available for the price of $999 in North America, 1,199 in Europe and ¥6,999, and it should arrive in stores in February.
